Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)

The Housing Choice Voucher Programs (HCV), formally Section 8 Rental Assistance, authorizes the payment of rental housing assistance to private landlords on behalf of low-income households. The Housing Choice Voucher program can pay a large portion of the rent and utilities, depending on household size and income.
The tenant has the flexibility to select a unit in the private sector, without being restricted to specific complexes, and may live anywhere within the county where they apply. Through the voucher program, eligible individuals or families find and lease a unit, contributing a portion of the rent. Participants in the program must adhere to a set of rules and regulations, commonly referred to as "family obligations," to retain their voucher. These obligations include promptly reporting any changes in household income or family composition, ensuring the subsidy amount and the applicable rental unit size are updated accordingly.
When a tenant exits the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, their slot is offered to the next person on the county's waiting list.
